A friend‑making app for shared values

Meet people who get what you care about.

FriendMaker lines you up with real events where your interests, values and way of life overlap — so a first conversation is easier to start.

You choose to meet in safe, moderated worlds such as Second Life, OSGrid and the Alternate Metaverse. No cold approaches, no guessing.

How it works

Friends aren't found by luck. They're found by overlap.

FriendMaker reads a cross‑section of "who you are" and surfaces events where that overlaps with other people. You show up, and the common ground is already there.

  1. Tell us what matters to you

Fill in an "about me" with the things that actually matter — your values, interests, goals, identity and background. These become small, readable qualities you can edit any time.

Examples from the app: Kindness, Reads, Night owl, Find friends, Connect with community.

  2. We surface events with real overlap

FriendMaker matches those qualities against events in the safe worlds and shows you the ones where your factors intersect with other people's — instead of a wall of unrelated listings.

  3. Pick a place that feels safe

Every event has a place, a time and a duration. Choose worlds built for comfortable, moderated meeting — Second Life, OSGrid and the Alternate Metaverse — or one of your own.

  4. Show up and connect

Attending an event on your list is the chance. Because you already share ground, the first conversation starts from common interest — not from a cold hello.

The words we use
Qualities
A category (values, interests, goals, identity, lifestyle, profession, skills) plus a value you pick — e.g. "Values · Kindness".
Places
A world (Second Life, OSGrid, Real Life, or another setting) and a location inside that world.
Events
A place, a time and a duration. Users can add events for the safe worlds.
Safe worlds
Controlled, community‑run environments — the recommended place to meet people through FriendMaker.

Getting started

From download to your first event in a few minutes.

No account gymnastics, no learning curve. The whole point is to get to the part where you're actually meeting people.

  1. Get the app.

FriendMaker runs on the platforms your device supports. Grab it, and it asks for nothing but a name.

  2. Sign in.

One lightweight account. We store just enough to keep your "about me" and your event list between sessions.

  3. Build your "about me".

Add qualities across values, interests, goals, identity, lifestyle, profession and skills. Start with five — refine as you learn what you care about.

  4. See events that fit.

Your home list is ranked by shared qualities, not popularity. Each entry shows the safe world, place, time and length.

  5. Go, and get in touch.

When an event feels right, add it and show up. You can also send a note to someone you matched with.

Privacy

What we store, why, and how to leave.

A short, plain‑English policy. Nothing you weren't expecting.

Last updated 28 August 2026 · Applies to the FriendMaker app and this website.

What we keep

  • Account — your email (or username), a password hash, and a sign‑in token. That's what lets you stay signed in.
  • Your "about me" — the qualities you add: values, interests, goals, identity, lifestyle, profession and skills. This is the data that drives matching.
  • Your event list — the places, times and durations of events you save or add.
  • Messages — any notes you send to other users through the app.

Don't send us what we don't need

  • No payment details. FriendMaker is free at launch and doesn't take card numbers.
  • No location tracking. We don't run background services, and we don't access your device's location.
  • No advertising. FriendMaker doesn't show ads and doesn't sell or licence your data to anyone.

Where it lives

FriendMaker is a small, independently‑run app. Data you sign in with is stored on our backend in a single database (SQLite via PocketBase) on infrastructure we control. We don't use third‑party analytics scripts on this website or in the app unless we say so here and in the app's about view first.

How we use it

The only thing we do with your qualities is to help the app show you events where they overlap with other people — and to help other people do the same. Nothing here is sold, profiled, or shared with a third party without an explicit explanation first.

Your rights

You can review, edit, export, or delete your account and everything it holds at any time from the settings screen. If you'd like a copy of your data or a full deletion and can't do it in the app, write to us through the contact form and we'll handle it by hand.

This website

This site is a static page. It has no script‑based analytics and no tracking cookies. The contact form opens your email app with a pre‑filled message; the text goes straight to us and isn't stored on a server before we read it.

A word on minors. FriendMaker is for adults (18+). We don't knowingly accept under‑age accounts. If you believe a minor has signed up, please let us know and we'll remove the account within 72 hours.

Changes to this policy

When we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update the date above and, if the change is meaningful, we'll tell you where we already are in touch — the in‑app about view or email you used to sign up.
